4/5 Blue

Student work

Despite not being in each other’s physical presence, 4/5 Blue have continued to thrive and express their enthusiastic and creative personalities via our Google Classroom. It has been a joy to read writing samples, see maths tasks being complete and continuing to interact with the class. It’s certainly different – but the class spirit continues to shine through!

From online platforms to more hands-on activities, I have been impressed with each and every work sample. The students have looked at angles and time in Maths – integrating their lovely heads into tasks…

In writing we have been using Pobble365.com for ideas in creative writing and even incorporated my cat Misty into the mix! She is very much enjoying her time in the spotlight on our Google Classroom feed.

Misty meets the King – By Oliver
ROAR! The ferocious lion roared so loudly the room rattled. Misty was a cat and soon she was going to meet her long lost relative. Suddenly the floorboards were shaking and her long-lost relative was standing before her. He was 9 feet high and had a large golden mane that sparkled in the sun. "Hey Jerry" said Misty "Long time no see". The huge lion roared again this time even louder. Misty took off as fast as lightning while Jerry chased her around Mrs Hawkins house. Jerry was constantly smashing into walls, pictures and lots more, this just made the lion angrier, so he jumped over the couch and sprinted at 75 miles per hour along the hall. Just when Jerry was about to pounce on Misty she ducked and Jerry had to dive over to not step on her. Jerry smashed the window and landed on the in the back yard. The Zoo keepers put the unconscious lion in the truck and drove him away.

We have also kept the persuasive writing going… some very strong arguments were put forward on a range of topics…

Why I believe that school holidays should be longer - By Sofia
Many people have arguments about school holidays, they should be longer, they should be shorter. Today I believe that school holidays should be longer. Us being children do not have as much energy as some adults and get tired easily, I believe that we need time to recover. Some of us children's parents work so it is nice to spend quality time with parents who are usually working. And of course, we are kids and deserve some time to be creative and free.

My first argument is that children get tired really easily. School goes for around about 6 hours 5 days a week. Some kids also do activities. So sometimes you could have a late night, then go to school tired and have a long day, then you go to some hard-core sports activity and crash. Say this keeps going on and on and on. It would really tire you out. School holidays are only 2 weeks long. It might take you a whole week to recover and become calm again, but what happens? You only have one week left! Having 3 weeks would give some children a fair amount of holiday time.

Secondly, parents are busy a lot of the time. And a lot of the time they are working. Working is vital to earn money and I understand parents needing to do it to keep the family stable. But one of the biggest problems would be children. Just simply because they need to spend time with their family. Family is important because they will always have your back. Some parents lack time to spend with kids, because of work. I believe that parents should take time off in school holidays. And if they do this is a time that is very precious and limited. I strongly believe that if we expand the school holidays by one week then this would give parents more time to spend with children.

Lastly, being a child does not last. It comes and goes faster than you would realise. I believe that you should enjoy your time being a child. Most of your time is occupied by going to school. This fills up about 70% of your life. I agree that school is important, but I also believe that expanding the holidays by just 1 week couldn't hurt. It gives children more time to enjoy their youth and freedom.

In conclusion this is why I strongly believe that children should get an expanded holiday. Children grow up fast, they get tired quickly and they need to spend time with their family.

We have tried to mix it up with some hands - on activities too, integrating STEM tasks, like building our very own towns, to art activities and some fun Easter projects to keep us motivated.

A great big thank you goes out to both the student and parents of 4/5 Blue – you are doing a great job, AND you are keeping myself and Zippy entertained while we socially isolate! Please stay safe over the holidays and have a well-deserved break!
